City & Culture

The Land of The Sleeping Giant or Hamden (although we prefer the former) has been ranked on CNN’s list of "Best Place to Live and Launch". Within its roughly thirty three square mile jurisdiction, Hamden Symphony Orchestra, Jonathan Dickerman House and Eli Whitney Museum among others create a sense of historical importance. The town of Hamden is not only known for its outstanding educational system and low crime rates but also as New Haven’s imperative suburban companion which is located directly South of Hamden. New Haven enjoys a long lasting impression of being a hub of higher education and a place of significant historical importance. The notorious Yale University resides in the city’s center. New Haven is considered to be the first city to be officially planned out in the entirety of the nation. The “Nine Square Plan”, which is the blueprint of the city’s initial layout, is recognized by the American Planning Association as a National Planning Landmark. The central common block is the New Haven Green, a 16-acre square at the center of Downtown New Haven which is primarily used as a communal place of gatherings and varied celebrations. Hamden, New Haven and the surrounding areas have plenty to offer. Feel free to browse through some of our recommendations below.

Fine dining

The heart of New Haven serves an impressive array of fine dining where class and elegance reverberate through the upscale atmosphere of restaurants such as the American ZINC New Haven, French Union League Cafe, and Italian L’Orcio.

recreation

Whether a crisp winter morning or a brisk summer afternoon, the surrounding areas of Hamden are replete with peculiarities for everyone. Recommended places of interest include the Ingalls Skating Rink, the East Rock Park and City Climb Gym.

Casual Dining

Prefer a classic night out filled with savory beers and daft cocktails paired with easygoing dining? Look no further than our personal favorite spots such as September In Bangkok, BAR and Da Legna at Nolo. Bonus, they are all within a few minutes drive of each other.

Entertainment

At times, people prefer to kick it back with an activity that does not require much effort. Yale’s fine theaters, New Haven’s museums and movie theaters are the answer. Take a peek at the Shubert Theater, the Cinemark North Haven and the Yale University Art Gallery.
